The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros

IMG_0630

A lot of reviews say that The Things We Leave Unfinished is a tale of two great love stories, one set during the World War II and the other unfolding in the present day. But I beg to disagree. This book is more than just Scarlett and Jameson’s romance, or Georgia and Noah’s. Not to say their stories aren’t compelling and heartfelt enough, because they really are.

Personally, I found myself more drawn to Scarlett and Jameson. Maybe it’s the looming presence of war in their lives and the constant fear that they might not make it kept me on edge and eager to know what happens next 🥺 I kept hoping and praying that everything will be alright in the end huhu I’d give this five stars for them alone!

As for Georgia and Noah, I felt that their story ended up fading a bit into the background for me, especially when placed alongside the emotional gravity of Scarlett and Jameson’s. I appreciated their moments, but they didn’t hit me quite as hard.

One thing I can say, though, is that after reading hundreds of romance novels, I thought I had a pretty good grasp of the usual formula. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, something tragic happens, and eventually, they find their way back to each other. But the plot twist in this book? I did not see it coming. I had to reread the whole chapter just to let it sink in. I was stunned, haunted, and completely heartbroken 😭

Writing this review is tricky because so much unfolds across the pages, and I really want to keep things spoiler-free. What I can say is this: The Things We Leave Unfinished is a beautiful testament to true and enduring love. Whether you’re caught in the chaos of war or standing in a quiet bookstore aisle, when love finds you, it stays.

I really should stop reading these emotionally devastating, heartbreaking, and soul-crushing books… but do I ever learn? Nope, probably not! 😂
