The Right Move (Windy City #2)

Right Move is book 2 of the Windy City series by Liz Tomforde. It is a sports romance that follows Ryan Shay, a professional basketball player, and Indy, his sister’s best friend. If you’ve read Mile High, Ryan is Stevie’s twin brother, and Indy is her fellow flight attendant turned best friend.

Indy has always had an upbeat personality since she was introduced in Mile High, and I liked how she and Stevie had developed a very supportive friendship. She went through a very painful time when her long-time boyfriend cheated on her, but even then, it didn’t dampen her spirits, and she has remained a bright person; at least she tried to.

Ryan has a reputation to uphold, so he has always been very guarded and closed off. However, he wasn’t always this way. There was a time when he trusted and loved freely, but all he got in return was betrayal. So, to protect himself, his loved ones, and his reputation, he chose to remain alone and unattached until Indy came along. It was heartwarming to watch him open up and learn to trust and love again.

“𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕.”

This quote perfectly sums up Ryan and Indy’s love. From the early chapters, you see Ryan doing small, thoughtful things for Indy, like preparing her coffee just the way she likes, buying vegetarian food even though he’s not a vegetarian, and allowing her to make changes to the apartment, despite never wanting anyone to disrupt his space. He has given her an unconditional love where she can be herself without fear 🥹 Indy, in turn, sees through Ryan’s defenses and tries to understand his emotions and trauma without pushing too hard. And to make the story even better, Ryan and Indy are both bookworms! Although they are polar opposites when it comes to genre choices, I just found it endearing when they read together and when Ryan built her a bookshelf. I could go on about the moments I loved from this book, but it’s best experienced firsthand! ❤️

BOOK BLURB:

RYAN

She’s a distraction, that’s what she is.

I’m the newest Captain of the Devils, Chicago’s NBA team, and the last thing I needed this year was for Indy Ivers, my sister’s best friend, to move into my apartment. She’s messy, emotional, and way too tempting.

But when the team’s General Manager vocalizes his blatant disapproval of my promotion to Captain, referring to me as an unapproachable lone wolf with no work-life balance, I can’t think of a better way to convince him otherwise than pretending to date my outgoing roommate.

The only problem? Faking it feels far too natural.

Having a fake girlfriend wasn’t supposed to be messy but having Indy under my roof and in my bed is complicated, especially when she wants all the romantic parts of life that I could never give her.

INDY

I never imagined I’d be living with my best friend’s brother, NBA superstar Ryan Shay. Even more unbelievable? He needs me to act as his loving girlfriend who’s suddenly changed him into a friendly and approachable guy.

Because, well…he’s not. He’s controlling of his space and untrusting of others.

Our arrangement isn’t one-sided, though. I’m in a wedding coming up, one where every one of my childhood friends, including my ex-boyfriend, will be in attendance, and there’s no better date than my ex’s celebrity hero.

Blurred lines make it almost impossible to separate real from fake. Falling for my roommate was never part of the deal, especially when Ryan is quick to remind me that he doesn’t believe in love.

I’m a romantic and can’t help fantasizing that he’ll change, but soon enough, I find myself questioning if sharing a roof with my best friend’s brother was the right move after all.
