Hopeless by Elsie Silver (Chestnut Springs #5)
Beau was a very intriguing character from the start. In the earlier books, he acts all playful and naughty in front of his family even after coming back from a dangerous secret military mission. But this time, he comes back differentāscarred in a way that no one really knows how deep it goes. Meanwhile, Bailey has been wronged all her life for being a Jansen , a family name that has a bad reputation in their small town. It was heartbreaking how she tries so hard to make a better life for herself, yet no one wants to give her a chance. She doesn't stand up for herself because doing so means she'll be more seen and will probably be subjected to more ridicule.
Beau doesnāt believe people would go to such great lengths to outcast Bailey because of her family, so he offers her his family name in a fake engagement, hoping it will make things better for her. He also wants to get his family off his back by appearing to be in a normal relationship after the horrors of his last deployment. And we all know how stories that begin in pretense develop into real feelings, and I'm here for that!
To conclude this series, I want to say that I love how Elsie Silver balances intense, heartfelt moments with humor, creating stories that feel genuine and will make you fall in love over and over again. ā¤ļø Iām excited to read more of her works!
Beau Eaton is the town prince, a handsome military hero with a tortured past.
Iām the outcast bartender, a shy girl from the wrong side of the tracks.
Heās thirty-five and all man, and Iām twenty-two and all⦠virgin.
Heās also my fiancĆ©. Correction: my fake fiancĆ©.
We start out as a bet. He doesnāt believe that anyone holds my last name against me. So he offers me his to prove a point.
Itās win-win. He gets a break from his concerned familyās prying, and I get a chance to shed my familyās reputation while I save up to ditch this small town.
He says all I have to do is wear his ring, follow his lead, and pretend I canāt keep my hands off of him in public.
But itās what happens between us in private that blurs all those carefully drawn lines.
Itās what transpires behind closed doors that doesnāt feel like pretending at all.
This engagement was supposed to be for show. This agreement? It has an end date.
