A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner
I’m just going to say it outright, what a stressful read this was. Jamie and B’s story was a total emotional rollercoaster. One minute, I was smiling; the next, I was crying, and most of the time, I was borderline frustrated and angry 😅 Did I love the story? Hmmm, I can’t say for sure, but I could not stop reading. Kandi Steiner’s writing was incredibly effective in conveying the raw emotions between Jamie and B. I loved how she used whiskey as a metaphor for B’s love for Jamie—the way it can offer relief with a sip but burn you at the same time. It was creative, poetic, and just so well-written.
Jamie and B are not your typical hero and heroine. They’re deeply flawed, make terrible choices, and leave a decade’s worth of pain and “what could have beens” in their wake. They love each other fiercely, but they’re so bad at making it work. They blame bad timing, but honestly, a lot of it felt self-inflicted. My emotions are all over the place, so I’m not even sure if this review makes sense. I have a serious love-hate relationship with this book, but one thing’s for sure, I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.
This book kept me second-guessing whether there would be a happily ever after right up until the last chapter. Honestly, with all the almosts and the constant push and pull, I kind of didn’t want them to have a happy ending 🤣 I can’t imagine reading that original epilogue and not wanting more. What a relief that by the time I got to this book, the 5th-anniversary edition, with Jamie’s POV and the extended epilogue was already out.
If you want to read this book hoping for a sweet romance, don't! haha but if you're the kind who thrives on angst and pain, go ahead 🥲
This is not your typical love story.
It’s a story of almosts and could-have-beens. Of friendship that teeters on the edge of something more. Of passion so intoxicating, it burns.
Jamie and B are two hearts caught in the tangle of bad timing and unspoken words. Their connection defies labels—too deep for friendship, too tangled for love. Over a decade of moments, choices, and missed opportunities, they find themselves drawn together like a moth to a flame, even when the world—and their own mistakes—keep pulling them apart.
Is it obsession? Destiny? Or just self-destruction with a pretty face?
Sometimes, love isn’t about finding the right person—it’s about the moment when everything aligns. But what if that moment never comes?
